Group A1 - Day 6 - DHO Kota Star @ Klinik Kesihatan Batu Rata

Today was our second day in  Family Health Unit. We were briefed by Matron Salmah. The Matron explained to us the function of Klinik Desa. Klinik Desa is managed by Jururawat Masyarakat. The scope of Klinik desa includes : a) antenatal checkup-booking
                b) child health-immunization
                c) postnatal care-pap smear
Klinik Desa do not have pharmacy and lab facilities. There are a total of 20 Klinik Desa in Kota Setar district.
Under this KK Batu Rata there are 2 Klinik Desa (KD) namely KD Suka Menanti and KD Titi Gajah. It is run by Jururawat Masyarakat. These KD gets about 30-50 patients on average per day. These KD are open on weekends and public holidays.

After that we also discussed about pre-pregnancy care. This is a programme whereby postnatal mothers are identified using their Red Book and screened using a scereening form to assess their risk associated with pregnancy. The screening is evaluated by the nurses in MCH. If any of the mothers are identified of being in a high risk group (eg: having DM, HT, Asthma and so on), they will be registered and seen by the doctor. The doctor will advise them on the risk associated with next pregnancy if they wish to conceive. If the mother do not want conceive, then family planning methods will be discussed with her. Family planning method can be broadly divided into hormonal and non-hormonal. Based on the risk of the mother, a proper method will be chosen for her.

Basically, that is all we did today.
